Picture of ESO 510 G13

Pluto Home  |  Go back

Normal spiral galaxies look relatively flat when viewed edge-on (from the side).

This galaxy (ESO 510-G13) however, has the appearance of a twisted disk.

This warped disk means that ESO 510-G13 collided with another galaxy in the past and is now busy merging with it. Millions of years from now it will look like any other normal spiral galaxy.

ESO 510-G13 is about 150 million light-years from Earth.
